GÄWJ - So Far Away From Giving A Fuck We Can’t Be Seen {Idoneum Bello} Ever wonder what it’s like to have your face burnt off while simultaneously being ripped a new arsehole? Wonder no more because New Zealand’s very own GÄWJ will sort both issues out! This is a trip-to-hell 15-track 7" pressed on resplendent white vinyl that melds the spastic blur of the most ferocious Japanese HC (think LIP CREAM), a WARCOLLAPSE-esque Crust vocal assault and some down-tuned Metal riffage to create a noise that is guaranteed to dissolve the bowel of any Gaslight Anthem fan at 50 paces. The opening squeal of feedback heralds one of the highlights, ‘Buried Under 1000 Years Of Shit’. The feedback continues to assail the ears between every track with ‘Roadside Slaughter’ and ‘All Burn Together’ being other notables. Packaging is top stuff too with a fold out poster, inner sleeve and full lyrics. I personally could’ve done without so much Metal in the sound, but when a track like ‘Fuck Your World’ hits, then all is fine by me! (11.10.09)

GAWJ REVIEW FROM PUNK AS

Hamilton band Gawj may have flown under most radars, but that's probably the way they want it. Don't believe that? Maybe the title of their latest vinyl 7" will give it away � the charmingly named, So Far Away From Giving A Fuck That We Can't Be Seen. I actually have a CD-R version to review with no tracklist and has two six-and-a-half-minute tracks on it, even though the 7" apparently contains 15 songs packed into those 13 minutes. So forgive the lack of individual song mentions, but in the case of So Far Away..., it probably is not required in any case. This is a ferocious barrage of a release, the songs racing past at breakneck speed and full intensity all the way through. There is not the slightest concession to verses and choruses or, fuck it, even melodies. This is about mainlining despair and aggression in the purest way possible. Drums clatter frenetically, guitars feedback and vocals shriek incomprehensibly. Easy listening, this ain't. In spite of all that, while the intensity never lulls, Gawj introduce a fair amount of variety into their work. Tempo changes, samples, groove variation and more mean there is more to chew on here than sheer ferocity. If there is a criticism, it may be that Gawj have not forged their own unique sound; this release sounds like a number of other bands. But when they're doing it as well as this, who really cares? A take-no-prisoners 'fuck off' statement as blunt as its title, So Far Away From Giving A Fuck That We Can't Be Seen is a short, sharp shock meant for the die-hard fans of the genre.

• the GAWJ 7" is in the pressing plant. even though it started with a little drawback as it was supposed to come in 4 different colors but the pressing plant would've charged me 1000 bucks more so I had to say bye to that plan!

• the STATE POISON 7" is recorded and should also hit the pressing plant soon

• the SHORTLIVED tracks for their European tour 7" are being mastered at the moment and should arrive here soon. additional to their tour 7" there will be a re-issue of the 8 tracks from their 2007 demo CD-R as a 7". it will be a one-time white label press ltd. to 200 copies!

New Zealand's best JAPCORE band GAWJ are finally done with the recording of their 1st 7" which will be called: "SO FAR AWAY FROM GIVING A FUCK THAT WE CAN'T BE SEEN"!

I just listened to the final mix and I love it - their 7" will be a real fucking rager! 15 tracks of raw, fast and vicious Nippon worshiping HARDCORE clocking in in 12 min 52 sec! GAWJ take no prisoners and proof that they know how to kick some serious ass!

the recordings will be sent to the pressing plant next week which means the 7" should be out within the next 3 weeks!

what you see below is the artwork of the stickers that will come with the 7" and what you see on the left is the artwork of the patch that will come with a ltd. box-version.

• DISCONNECTED have recorded for the split with WASTELAND. they've a new singer and what I've heard so far slays!

• DISTÄTE will enter 1IN12 Studio 8 - 10 May and record stuff for a split with DEMON CITY REAPER and 7" of their own with Bri (DOOM)

• STATE POISON have recorded for their 7" but fucked something up and lost the vocal tracks!

• SHORTLIVED have recorded their 7" for their Europe tour.

• GAWJ should have finished the recording for their 7" by now!

at the moment it seems that it is going to be called "SO FAR AWAY FROM GIVING A FUCK... WE CAN'T BE SEEN!"

the 1st pressing will be 1000 copies and it will be possible to pre-order the 7" soon (this will get you a copy of the 7" on limited colored vinyl)!

BACK TO BUSINESS

nearly 10n years ago I helped to release the REVOLTE 10" and soon after that my label went on a hiatus but now I've re-activated my label!

the 1st 2 releases will be out in late January / February 2009! after those 2 there are some more things I'd love to do. one of them being a split 7" for which I need a second band! if you think that your band deserves to be on that split try and convince me that your band is reliable and that you put some pride in what you're doing (that means if you leave a comment with a link to a shitty done 128 kbits mp3 rip of your shitty recorded demo you failed!)! if you think you could succeed contact me via e-mail but be prepared that if I don't know you and your band you'll have to send me a physical copy of your demo, 7", whatever by snail mail and that is not negotiable!

ATTENTION: if you play in some shitty OI, POP-PUNK, GORE- or PORNGRIND band and are really stupid enough to try be prepared to be ridiculed and mocked in nearly all of my future posts here on this blog!

till now I paid most of the bills for the 1st new release which means it should be out in the 1st week of January 09. the 2nd release will be the 1st 7" of New Zealand's JAPCORE thrashers # 1 GAWJ. they'll record the tracks in early January and the 7" should then be released in late February 2009. as soon as I've figured out the costs for the GAWJ 7" you'll be able to do pre-orders which will get you limited colored vinyl, etc.!

and I decided I'm going to start a series of split 7"es shared by bands that haven't released anything on vinyl yet! the 1st pressing of each split in that series will be 500! so releases # 3 and # 4 will be splits from that series (I'm still looking for bands for that series and I'm looking for a name!).

what's planned as release # 5 is still shrouded in secrecy!
